Caroline Dininazy, Britain's secretary of state for digital, Culture, Media and Sport, said the COUNTRY is reviewing the possible impact of U.S. chip maker Nvidia's takeover of British chip giant Arm, including nvidia's commitment to keep arm's headquarters and staff in Cambridge, eastern England.

"We are working hard to understand the full impact of this move and its potential implications for the future," Dininazi told lawmakers on Tuesday morning. Then we can think about what we want to do."

She said the government would take into account Nvidia's commitment to 'very carefully' retain Arm as a U.K. company. The UK has been in discussions with all parties involved in the merger.

She said the minister for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport would decide whether to intervene in the deal after weighing up the information.

Nvidia's bid for Arm has sparked concern in the UK. Hermann Hauser, a co-founder of Arm, told BBC Radio 4 on The 14th that if Nvidia bought Arm, "I think it would be an absolute disaster for Cambridge, for the UK and for Europe".

Arm is regarded as the crown jewel of the UK technology industry. Arms-designed processors are used in 90% of the world's smartphones.

If Nvidia were to move its headquarters to the U.S. and turn it into a Nvidia subsidiary, It would put thousands of Arm employees out of work in the U.K., destroy its business model and create a monopoly, Mr. Hauser said.

In his view, the most important concern concerns economic sovereignty. "If Arm became a US company, it would be under the jurisdiction of CFIUS," he says. Where the hundreds of British companies whose products use Arm's chips are sold or exported will be decided by the White House, not Downing Street ".

Nvidia and SoftBank announced Wednesday that they have agreed to buy Arm from SoftBank for $40 billion. Nvidia is the largest US chip company by market capitalisation. Nvidia is best known for its graphics processors. But nvidia's fastest growing business comes from artificial intelligence chips in its data centers, according to the company's results.

The Wall Street Journal commented at the time that a combination of the two chip heavyweights would make Nvidia an instant smartphone market leader and a big technology supplier for everything from smart speakers to fitness data-tracking devices.
